About The Position

Under the supervision of the Sheriff, this position performs all necessary service of Civil Process, Subpoenas, Writ of Executions and performs Court Security for Otsego County Courts. The role involves recording and serving all incoming Civil Process, reviewing documents daily for timely service, determining efficient travel routes, and ensuring adherence to statutory requirements for service of process. The position also handles billings for Civil Process and provides court security, requiring considerable knowledge of courtroom procedures and operations, and the ability to handle stressful situations. Other duties include operating a metal detector and performing other assigned tasks.

Requirements

• High school graduation, preferably with some coursework in law enforcement or criminal justice.
• One or more years of related experience in law enforcement or civil process.
• Possession of valid Michigan Driver’s License.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy in contentious or confrontational situations.
• Regularly required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone.
• Required to view and produce written reports.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in order to operate metal detector and perform courtroom security screenings.
• Must frequently lift and/or move items of light to moderate weights.

Responsibilities
