About The Position

This position represents a civil and/or structural engineering role within the NAV CANADA Facility Systems and Infrastructure multi-discipline engineering team which is responsible for architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems at over 100 staffed and 1000 un-staffed facilities. For civil and structural systems, this includes but is not limited to staffed and unstaffed building structures, foundations, roofs, fences, civil works, roadways, parking lots, security gates, and air navigation surveillance & communication towers and shelters. Requirements

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized educational institution.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering in Canada
  • Minimum 3 years experience with civil and/or structural engineering in the facility management and/or construction industry
  • Experience with multidiscipline construction engineering, application engineering, and consultant engineering
  • Experience with new facility design, construction, and maintenance
  • Experience with Technical Writing
  • Thorough knowledge of related Engineering maintenance procedures, maintenance management systems and life-cycle concepts
  • Extensive knowledge of civil and/or structural works design and installation principals, methods and practices
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal and Provincial acts, legislation and codes
  • Knowledge and experience with the following software applications: AutoCAD
  • Knowledge and experience with the following software applications: Microsoft Office 365 (word, outlook, excel, power point, one drive, teams)
  • Knowledge and experience with the following software applications: Microsoft Visio
  • Adapts well to changing priorities and environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Define engineering requirements
  • Identify, evaluate and select viable alternatives
  • Prepare and review project approval documents
  • Review designs and specifications produced by outside contractors & consultants
  • Conduct periodic inspection to ensure that facility and outside plant installations conform to approved design and quality
  • Develop transition plans for new works to be installed at existing facilities
  • Participate in procurement, construction and installation projects
  • Research and implement new technologies
  • Assist in the development of national standards and procedures for the construction, installation and maintenance of staffed and outside plant facilities
  • Provide technical evaluation and advice requiring interpretation of Federal and Provincial acts, legislation and codes
