About The Position

This position can be hired as either an Engineer III or Senior Engineer depending on experience. The Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department is the Design Authority for each of Duke Energy’s six nuclear sites. CDE is responsible for the execution of a fleet portfolio that includes design solutions supporting risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization.

Requirements

  • Nuclear Engineer III: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master 's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. 4-6 years of engineering experience. Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
  • Sr Nuclear Engineer: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer. Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
  • Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance.
  • Must meet the minimum ANSI requirements for this position identified within the scope of Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications.

  • Experience with Dynamic/Seismic Structural Analysis
  • Working level knowledge of Stress Analysis software programs (SuperPipe, AutoPipe, Caesar II).
  • Working knowledge of ASME Codes (examples: B31.1, Section III, Section IX, Section XI), AISC Steel Construction Codes (ASD, LFRD, and ACI Concrete Design Code).
  • Familiarity with Solidworks or equivalent 3D modeling software.
  • Experience with nuclear industry standard design process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, which include but are not limited to Stress Analysis, Structural Analysis, Dynamic/Seismic Analysis, Steel and Concrete Design.
  • Research engineering and design issues, evaluates alternatives, determines and presents recommendations to resolve issues.
  • Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
  • Develop or revise design/procurement specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes.
  • Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
  • Develop licensing screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes
  • Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
