About The Position

WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer to support the planning, design, permitting, and delivery of infrastructure, land development, and civil engineering projects. This role provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and project teams on a variety of public and private sector projects, supporting all phases of project development from conceptual planning through design and construction. The successful candidate will assist with engineering analysis, site evaluations, design development, permitting, technical documentation, and construction support while building a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 1–3 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, or full-time engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering principles, design practices, permitting processes, and construction fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, site development, transportation, municipal, utility, or land development projects.
  • Understanding of applicable engineering standards, regulations, and permitting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical information and develop practical solutions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or similar tools.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements and occasional travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or active pursuit of licensure.
  • Internship or prior experience supporting civil infrastructure, land development, transportation, municipal, utility, or renewable energy projects.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, hydrology, or stormwater modeling software.
  • Participation in professional organizations such as ASCE, NSPE, or other industry groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing information from surveys, field investigations, GIS data, utility records, maps, geotechnical reports, and other project resources to support planning, design, and construction activities.
  • Support civil engineering design efforts for infrastructure, land development, transportation, municipal, and utility projects.
  • Participate in field investigations, site assessments, and inspections to document existing conditions and evaluate project requirements.
  • Assist in preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, design memoranda, drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development of grading, drainage, utility, stormwater, roadway, and site development design solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with permit applications and coordination activities with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and coordination efforts with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support risk identification, technical evaluations, and development of engineering recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, planners, environmental specialists, surveyors, and other project stakeholders to support project execution.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to expand technical knowledge and engineering skills.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making while adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and quality standards.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
