Civil Engineering Student Intern
About The Position
This internship offers a unique opportunity for motivated students to gain hands-on experience on real-world projects within the civil engineering field. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals, supporting the design and construction of critical infrastructure. This role provides well-rounded industry experience, strengthens technical skills, and fosters the development of meaningful relationships with engineers, contractors, and municipal staff. It is an opportunity to apply academic knowledge, receive valuable mentorship, and grow professionally in a supportive, collaborative environment. The internship is scheduled from May to August.
Requirements
- Actively pursuing a degree in civil engineering or a related field
- Strong work initiative, attention to detail, and a desire to learn
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to communicate professionally to build positive relationships with project teams, contractors, clients and the public
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements and estimations
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Nice To Haves
- Experience with construction, surveying, or CAD software is beneficial but not required
Responsibilities
- Support field inspections of sewer, water, and paving construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications
- Use of measuring equipment to verify materials, line, and grade accuracy
- Maintain accurate records and update project documentation utilizing electronic reporting software
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and municipal staff to maintain project schedules
- Respond to public inquiries and assist in addressing construction-related questions or concerns
- Work outdoors on real-world infrastructure projects that strengthen communities
- Communicate effectively and collaborate professionally with diverse project teams
- Apply academic knowledge to practical engineering challenges
- Assist with field and office tasks as needed
- Demonstrate strong work ethic, detail orientation, and a commitment to project success
