About The Position

The Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple projects for private land development clients, encompassing planning, design, and management for industrial, commercial, and residential projects. This role involves consulting with clients to determine site requirements, providing design information, and estimating costs. The Project Manager leads and supports the development of project proposals, defines project tasks, schedules, and resource requirements, and establishes and helps achieve QA/QC goals. Key responsibilities include providing leadership for day-to-day operational activities related to civil engineering and site work design, coordinating with various technical staff, and managing project budgets, profitability, and client billing. The role also involves identifying additional scope and revenue opportunities, participating in business development, preparing and reviewing contracts, managing project scope, maintaining client communication, mentoring staff, and cultivating strong client relationships.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Michigan P.E. License or ability to obtain
5 years of project management experience
10 years of relevant civil engineering experience in site development including site layout, grading, sewer and other utility design, pavement design, permitting, budgeting, jurisdictional agency interaction, and all other aspects of site development for a wide variety of project types
Working knowledge of codes, regulations, and standards applicable to the design and construction of major site development projects in Michigan
Working knowledge of typical computer software programs used for civil engineering design and management (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to manage staff and multi‑discipline projects
Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, possess the desire to develop new clients, and expand the services of existing clients
Effective written and verbal communication is necessary and independent judgment is essential
Self‑motivated and the ability to motivate others
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to function effectively in teamwork environment
Ability to work on several projects concurrently, prioritize work load and cope with tight timelines to meet all deadlines without compromising quality
Good mentoring skills
Excellent problem-solving skills; complete assigned tasks efficiently and exercise sound engineering judgment
Strong attention to detail and has an aptitude for noticing small errors on engineering designs
Strong understanding of financial management
Strong well-developed conflict resolution skills and ability to focus on client satisfaction
Possess the ability to change focus quickly during a typical day

Nice To Haves

Healthcare Education, Residential, Commercial or Industrial land development project experience is preferred

Responsibilities

Consults with clients to determine site requirements and provides information regarding design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs and approval time.
Leads and/or provides support for the development of project proposals.
Defines project tasks, schedule and resource requirements.
Establishes goals for the projects and assists with achievement of QA/QC goals.
Provides leadership and management of the day-to-day operational activities for the preparation of civil engineering / site work design drawings and specifications.
Coordinates with project architects, landscape architects, geo-technical engineers, and other technical staff for project development and project delivery.
Manages project budget and analyzes project profitability, revenue, margins, billing rates and utilization.
Facilitates team meetings with project team and evaluates the project.
Prepares client-billing information on assigned projects and manages collections on outstanding accounts receivable balances.
Identifies additional scope and revenue opportunities that relate to the project and participates in business development activities.
Prepares and/or reviews and signs project contracts, change orders, and manages project scope in general.
Provides on-going communication with the client related to the project.
Mentors PEA staff and cultivates strong working relationships with clients.
Performs other duties assigned.
