About The Position

DLR Group is an integrated design firm dedicated to elevating the human experience through design. The Omaha studio has an opening for a Civil Engineering Summer Intern as part of the Emerging Professional Experience (EPX) Program. This program offers a meaningful introduction to life within an integrated design firm and a strong foundation for a career in the AEC industry. Interns will have opportunities to develop and share their design voice through hands-on project work, mentorship, and learning experiences. They will gain exposure to various disciplines and ideas shaping the built environment, potentially participating in design discussions, project meetings, site visits, business development efforts, and office activities. The program combines mentorship, project work, and weekly learning sessions covering topics such as design culture, sustainability, design technology, communication, marketing, project management, research, equity, and career development. Leaders and integrated designers across DLR Group will share their insights, and interns will build connections with fellow emerging professionals.

Requirements

  • Completed at least one year at an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
  • Experience with drafting programs such as Revit.
  • Excellent communication, technology, and organizational skills.
  • Good multitasking skills to easily switch between projects while keeping track of tasks.
  • Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment.
  • A desire to learn about the architecture/engineering design process.

Nice To Haves

  • Goal oriented with strong skills in problem solving, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable building design.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable and low-impact site and landscape design.
  • An appreciation and understanding of landscape engineering and architectural systems and design and how architects work and think.
  • A third-year student in an accredited engineering program.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers as part of our integrated design process.
  • Learn the tools, technology and workflow involved with BIM and how today’s designers deliver successful projects, including creating and coordinating documents using Autodesk’s Civil 3D software.
  • Accompany team members on site visits to project sites to see the real-world results of what you do.
  • Assist in developing concepts, calculations, modeling, drawing review, and project execution.
  • 2D Drafting and 3D Modeling using Autodesk Revit Software.
  • Help write and review civil-related specifications.
  • Assist team with civil engineering calculations and code research.
