About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineering Discipline Leader to support aviation design management in our Hunt Valley, Maryland office within the Transportation Aviation Business Line. This role supports the delivery of airport and airfield projects focused on safety, compliance, improvements, and expansion, spanning the full project lifecycle from planning through construction. The role includes design, coordination, and construction support for a wide range of airport infrastructure projects, while also providing technical leadership and mentorship within the civil engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree and 8 years of related civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • US Citizenship required due to the projects associated with this position
  • As a condition of employment, candidate must pass client required background check(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in airport or airfield civil engineering design, a solid understanding of FAA standards, and the ability to lead projects and teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage clients and collaborate with internal teams.
  • Advanced Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design software
  • Experience in performing construction administration and inspection
  • Advanced Experience with Microsoft Office Software
  • Ability to work in both office and field (construction) environments

Responsibilities

  • Leading civil engineering design efforts for airport development projects, including runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals, and related facilities
  • Providing technical leadership and serving as a subject matter expert within the aviation civil engineering group
  • Planning and overseeing design activities, including airfield layout, site grading, drainage, pavement design, and stormwater management
  • Preparing and reviewing construction documents, including plans, specifications (FAA AC 150/5370-10), schedules, design reports, and cost estimates
  • Coordinating utility design, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance
  • Using Civil 3D and other design tools to develop and review engineering plans and calculations
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, clients, utilities, and regulatory agencies
  • Serving as task leader, providing oversight, mentorship, and guidance to engineers, designers, and CAD staff
  • Resolving complex technical challenges and making independent engineering decisions
  • Supporting construction activities, including shop drawing reviews, responding to contractor inquiries, and performing inspections
