About The Position

We’re looking for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Staff Civil Engineer with 1–5 years of experience to join our Civil Engineering team. This is a full-time, in-office position with regular field exposure. No two weeks look the same. You’ll be assigned a California-licensed PE mentor on Day 1 — not as a formality, but because some of our principals consider helping engineers earn their PE one of their proudest professional accomplishments. At Omni Design, we design better communities through collaboration. We’re a small, close-knit civil engineering and architecture firm rooted on California’s Central Coast — and we take that mission literally. The streets, parks, drainage channels, and public spaces we design are the same ones our team drives past, hikes beside, and brings their kids to on weekends. We’re not a 500-person firm where you’ll spend five years waiting for your first project meeting. We’re a team of about 15 people where you’ll meet clients in your first month, present at agency hearings in your first year, and watch your work get built in the community where you live.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• EIT certificate (California BPELSG) or eligibility to sit for the FE Civil exam within six months of hire
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D — this is the production standard at Omni Design
• Valid California driver’s license
• Authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with City of SLO, County of SLO, or Caltrans design standards
• Experience with HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, or StormCAD
• QSD/QSP certification or SWPPP preparation experience
• ArcGIS Pro or other GIS tools
• Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assist in developing 30/60/90/100% PS&E plan sets for grading, drainage, wet utilities, ADA improvements, and site civil work using Civil 3D
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations (NOAA Atlas 14, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS) and drainage design in compliance with City, County, and state standards
• Assist with SWPPP preparation and post-construction stormwater compliance under California’s Construction General Permit
• Conduct field observations on active construction projects, respond to RFIs, and prepare record drawings
• Attend pre-bid job walks, agency meetings, and client site visits
• Prepare reports, cost estimates, specifications, and correspondence
• Coordinate with public agencies including the City of SLO, County of SLO, Caltrans District 5, and local utilities
