About The Position

Braun Intertec is seeking students pursuing degrees in engineering, construction management, or related fields for a 6-month Co-op opportunity in our Rochester, MN office. This role offers in-depth technical training and industry certifications. Co-ops will perform various tests on construction materials like soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt, both in the lab and on construction sites. The position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, lifting up to 75 pounds, and performing tasks such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Work may also occur on uneven terrain, at varying heights, in confined spaces, or supported trenches. Co-ops will gain valuable field experience, onsite communication skills, and exposure to industry standards.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record for the last 3 years.
  • Full-time commitment for 6-months from mid-May to December.
  • The ability to lift 75+ pounds.
  • A “working safe” attitude and mindset.
  • The ability to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Willingness to work at or on uneven terrain, varying heights, in confined spaces, or supported trenches.

Nice To Haves

  • College student working toward in engineering or construction management degree or related field.
  • Experience driving a pickup truck or other large vehicle(s).
  • Some work-related experience (landscaping, construction, farming, etc.).
  • Mechanical aptitude with practical problem-solving skills.
  • Some related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of testing on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt.
  • Conduct onsite materials testing on various commercial and transportation construction projects.
  • Work with project managers and technicians to ensure specifications are followed.
  • Receive in-depth technical training and industry certifications.
  • Participate in a 3-day training event covering construction safety, soil compaction and classification, ACI certification, radiation safety, materials lab, and nuclear density gauge training.
  • Be mentored by a professional engineer.
  • Learn procedures and gain exposure to ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC, and DOT standards.
