About The Position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, Civil Engineer to be located in the Iowa Field Office in Huxley, Iowa. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Iowa.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program
  • Registered Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and good communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

  • Preferred minimum of 2-3 years of experience in civil engineering design

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects.
  • Scoping and proposal development, survey, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners.
  • Prepare proposals, scope of work, and budgets in close coordination with biological staff.
  • Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  • Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  • Prepare project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Perform topographic surveys.
  • Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
  • Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Assist with occasional field work as required, which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.
  • Operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
