About The Position

Performs designs and other tasks of engineering projects by performing the following duties. Motivated, self-starter that can independently lead a professional design team to provide general engineering services. Team player that can aid in the development of junior engineers and senior designers. Performs assignments designed to continue to develop professional engineering work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Assignments require independent judgment and application of a non-routine, complex nature, under the supervision of the Director. Assignments shall include more variables and be more complex. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the company in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of engineering. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually result from progressive experience. Assignments usually include complex engineering tasks and calculations with limited technical guidance on non-standard issues. Must coordinate with and help resolve conflicts with other disciplines based on an excellent understanding of the design process. Responsible for the preparation of project specific construction specifications and construction administration. Prepares due diligence studies, construction documents, bid documents, reports, technical specifications (MasterSpec and SpecsIntact), plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and permit applications for projects. Abilities to include all general civil engineering design, including but not limited to: site planning, phasing, traffic/transportation systems for site design, master planning, demolition, erosion control, geometry, paving, grading, drainage, storm water, utilities, potable water, site fire, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, lift stations, profiles, cross sections, details, a general knowledge of surveying & geotechnical principles, and coordination of all site utilities – power, site lighting, communications, gas, etc. Experience with local and federal regulatory permitting agencies as necessary to support Design and Construction Documents. Familiar with LEED principals and design elements pertaining to site civil items. Has a working knowledge of computer aided design drafting to produce designs into routine final drawings. Research discipline-related code issues and present interpretation. Visits construction site to review, monitor, and report progress and perform other construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, attend construction site meetings, review RFI’s, prepare ASI’s, PR’s, prepare status reports, per the contract documents. Uses company and discipline department computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers. Assist in supervising, coordinating and checking the work, as well as instructing, leading and mentoring Engineer Levels I, II, and III, and Designers and Drafters. Perform checking of one’s own work and work prepared by drafters, engineering designers and other engineers. Provide coordination of all applicable project discipline’s drawings and specifications. Assist in preparing design budgets, marketing proposals and cost estimates. Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects. Promote communications, cooperation and quality among staff. Must be proficient in the use of the following software: Microsoft Windows, Excel, Project, Power Point, Bluebeam, and Word, StormCAD, WaterCAD, ICPR, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Department miscellaneous product selection and sizing software. Promotes and represents the firm in a professional manner. Responsible for job specific standards, practices and quality as defined in BRPH Systems Manuals. Develops engineering proposals, level II scopes of work, and agreements for assigned projects within the department. Prepares forecast of workload and resources for assigned projects and/or department. Prepares and monitors project budgets. Has overall responsibility for the profitability of his/her projects. Prepares estimated percent complete versus financial percent complete to track progress. Ability to develop a financial cost to complete to ensure project meets financial goals. Responsible for meeting project schedules, timely completion and quality of assigned projects. May serve as a project manager or project engineer on assigned projects. Should be active in professional trade organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of six years’ experience in civil engineering.
  • Possess a Professional Engineering License in the State of Florida.
  • Ability to obtain NCEES.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Project, Power Point, Bluebeam, and Word.
  • Proficient in the use of StormCAD.
  • Proficient in the use of WaterCAD.
  • Proficient in the use of ICPR.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in the use of department miscellaneous product selection and sizing software.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
