About The Position

This position is with the Southern California Area Office, Vandenberg AFB Resident Office located in Vandenberg AFB, Santa Barbara, California. Serves as a Project Engineer responsible for performing and directing the full range of field engineering activities associated with construction operations at a Project Office. Recruitment or Relocation incentives may be authorized if found in the best interest of the Government. Duties Applies full professional civil engineering knowledge of soils mechanics, hydraulics, theory of structures, strength ofmaterials, engineering geology and surveying. Assigned projects vary in type and size, but can be characterized as being high tech, fast track, Research Development Testing and Evaluation(RDT and E) with the use of accelerated schedules. Project require the need for new and specialized equipment, materials and methods associated with DOD space and missile launch and tracking programs; Dealings and coordination with avariety of interested parties, DOD and non-DOD government organizations and civilian aerospace contractors located at Vandenberg AFB, local government officials, state and local environmental agencies. Construction is performed under rigid completionschedules associated with space and missile programs, and requires strict adherence to safetystandards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess, or obtain and maintain a valid U.S. Drivers License at time of appointment.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel in TDY status up to 10%.
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); OR a degree that includes differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials; or any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering, demonstrated by Professional registration or licensure, Written Test (Fundamentals of Engineering), Specified academic courses (60 semester hours), or Related curriculum (bachelor's degree in a scientific field with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience).
  • One year Specialized Experience directly related to this occupation equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Government, performing civil engineering or project engineering for general construction projects and administering construction contracts for Federal acquisition projects.
  • Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A 1 year probationary period is required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
