About The Position

This is a para-professional engineering position within the Division of Building Plan Review. The incumbent is responsible for plans administration to ensure services are delivered timely and appropriately during the permitting process to both internal and external customers. Work is performed that affords independent judgment and technical evaluation under the general supervision of the Section Supervisor and/or the Division Associate Director or designee. The incumbent performs work diligently to complete tasks and duties as assigned. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and/or administrative duties relative to the processing of applications and issuance of various County permits

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by college level courses in higher mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry)
  • Four (4) years of para-professional engineering experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be accepted

Nice To Haves

  • Building/structural plan review experience
  • Experience with eplan, momentum or other electronic permitting and plan review software
  • ICC / NFPA building plan review and/or inspections experience, engineering or architectural bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

  • Receives and process commercial and residential building plan submissions.
  • Reviews each submittal package for completeness and accuracy
  • Quality control - checks plans, applications and workflows, returning same as necessary.
  • Coordinates the review process and provides assistance and guidance to applicants
  • Coordinates collation, stamping and release of approved plans to the Permits Office for issuance.
  • Verifies that all disciplines have reviewed and appropriately recorded their approvals in both the automated and manual systems.
  • Ensures in-house archiving of issued engineering plans in accordance with the approved records retention schedule
  • Responsible for ensuring that the ePlan system is accessible, reliable and functional for internal and external users
  • Responsible for handling inquiries from internal and external customers as they pertain to general plan review and permitting requirements
  • Other related duties as assigned
