The Civil Engineer (Transportation) position with the Department of Transportation offers the chance to support important roadway projects across District 9. Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Develop roadway alignments using engineering software and apply geometric design standards
  • Review LGTS submissions to confirm roadway geometry, drainage, and guiderail accuracy
  • Verify plots, easements, and limits to ensure plans meet design policies and boundaries
  • Analyze deed descriptions and verify property line accuracy in CADD systems
  • Evaluate consultant technical and price proposals for survey-related work and recommend actions
  • Identify early design or drainage issues to prevent project delays and improve outcomes
