This role is ideal for May 2026 Electrical Engineering graduates who are looking to launch their career in power and substation design with hands-on experience, mentorship, and real project exposure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam preferred but not required.
  • Coursework or familiarity with power systems, substations, or electrical design is a plus.
  • Exposure to relevant standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a desire to learn and grow.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Excel is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and modifying physical substation designs, including equipment layouts, plan and section views, elevations, and electrical details for high-voltage substations (32.4–230kV).
  • Support the layout of major substation equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and bus systems.
  • Assist with substation grounding designs, including ground grids, equipment grounding, and grounding connections.
  • Assist with developing rigid and strain bus layouts, conductor arrangements, and associated clearances.
  • Support the design and layout of substation structures, foundations, steel, and equipment supports.
  • Assist with developing raceway layouts, including conduit, cable tray, and trench systems.
  • Support the layout and design of auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
  • Prepare and update bills of materials, equipment lists, and other engineering and construction documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to coordinate physical designs with protection, control, civil, structural, and electrical requirements.
  • Participate in construction, testing, and commissioning activities to gain hands-on field experience.
  • Apply field markups to drawings and assist with incorporating revisions into as-built documentation.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations, such as equipment clearances, conductor sizing, voltage drop, grounding, and lighting calculations, with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Travel up to 25%, depending on project needs.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, with opportunities to learn and contribute across different project phases.
