About The Position

This Civil Engineer Project Manager is responsible for overseeing construction projects and participating in pre-construction activities. The position provides project and construction management, coordinates with contractors, consultants, CDOT specialty branches and local municipalities, and helps ensure departmental policies, procedures and design standards are incorporated into roadway construction projects. This position may serve as the project manager on smaller projects and assistant other project managers on larger, more complex projects, with the goal of ensuring safe and effective construction.

Requirements

  • At least six (6) years of experience with a primary focus in construction project management.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least six (6) years.
  • Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in construction management, engineering, engineering technology or another field of study related to the duties of this position will be considered.
  • Experience with a primary focus in construction project management will be considered.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
  • A current valid driver’s license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Administer construction contracts and monitor consultant construction management of transportation projects.
  • Ensure safe and effective construction of transportation engineering projects.
  • Monitor project schedules, expenditures, materials, equipment needs and required project documentation.
  • Review project activities and reports to ensure project items are complete.
  • Review Requests for Equitable Adjustment and make recommendations to the Resident Engineer.
  • Review plans and specifications, including layouts, alignments, standard designs, quantities, acquisitions and clearances incorporated into bid document packages.
  • Help ensure timely project advertisement.
  • Prepare change modification orders for changes to project scope, specifications, pay items, limits, duration or design.
  • Prepare and review documentation for payment estimates and measure or verify quantities of completed work.
  • Prepare detailed daily diaries documenting contractor operations and work completed.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with equal employment opportunity requirements, safety regulations, and applicable state, local and federal requirements.
  • Review contractor payroll, OJT and DBE documentation for compliance and respond to payroll complaints.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with CDOT work units, governmental agencies, municipalities, utilities and other project partners.
  • Coordinate with the public, consultants and contractors involved in or affected by assigned projects.
  • Direct the work of CDOT project staff on a project-by-project basis.
  • Train and mentor less experienced project staff and provide on-site training to consultants as needed.
