About The Position

This position supports project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments, primarily focused on design for mining and industrial site development, with opportunities to support other sectors as needed. Responsibilities include project planning and management; civil design and analysis; CADD and Civil 3D modeling; preparation of construction plans, specifications, and spreadsheets; and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. Additional duties involve site grading and layout design, design of buried utilities, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, report writing and large report support, construction cost estimating and construction management and observation. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 5 or more years of related work experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Civil 3D.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future.
  • Ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites.
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in civil site design, including grading, layout, and underground utilities.
  • Prior involvement in industrial or heavy‑commercial site projects.
  • 7+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: experience with the preparation of plans and specifications, analyzing alternatives, and developing quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Project management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budget.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
  • Staff development: support the growth and development of team members.
  • Site grading and layout design.
  • Design of buried utilities.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic calculations.
