Civil Engineer Intern
About The Position
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Student Intern to join our team in the Louisville, KY office within our Energy Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working on civil engineering projects in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment. Projects range from site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, construction CQA/CQC, and hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) design, to large complex civil site designs. This is a temporary full-time position at 40 hours a week and up to a 3-month duration. Additional schedules will be considered. Required skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, team focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real-life problems.
Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel (required).
- Enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably civil engineering is required.
- Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
- Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages.
- Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with CADD design software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD (preferred).
- Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Willingness to learn new programs and skills in Power Delivery.

- Construction Cost Estimates
- Owner's Engineer Support During Construction
- Field Investigations
- Daily/Weekly Construction Inspections
- Earthwork Construction Quality Control
- Compaction Testing
- Concrete Testing
- ESC Inspections
- SWPPP Inspections
- Environmental Monitoring
- Occasional overnight travel (one to two stays) within 150 miles (up to 5%).
