About The Position

Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern in Fargo, North Dakota. The intern will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction-phase activities and assist engineers with a variety of in-office projects. Structural projects may include grade separations, bridges, box culverts, dams, floodwalls, gate wells, and lift stations.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related Engineering program.
• Be able to work extended periods outdoors.
• Have above-average math and communication skills.
• Have a valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
• Have task-management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.
• Have problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D and ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates and document construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines on project plan sets.
• Operate electronic survey instruments, such as GPS and Total Station equipment.
• Use software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and ArcGIS.
• Observe and collect data at different types of project sites.
• Assist with project research, development, and design.
