About The Position

Engineering work related to the design and construction of water utility systems including water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, storm drainage and detention, and floodplain management.

Requirements

  • Understanding of engineering practices and principles.
  • Ability to use engineering, computer-aided design, spreadsheet, word processing and statistical software.
  • Affinity for math and physics in order to solve engineering problems.
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis.
  • Strong communication including verbal, written, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, and analytical thought process.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Some applied engineering experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs work in support of municipal engineering projects and under the direction of experienced Engineers which may include an essential combination of the following: Reviews and coordinates review of project plans/designs for compliance with engineering principles, federal, state, county and, city regulations; prepares recommendations for approval or denial.
  • Coordinates with other departments or agencies to facilitate conflict resolution, project implementation and compliance to standards.
  • Performs work in support of multiple engineering and construction projects.
  • Compiles, researches and analyzes reports, records, drawings and other data to support the planning, design, and/or evaluation of projects or programs.
  • Prepares or modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and/or designs for projects.
  • May inspect sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
  • Serves as a technical information resource for the public, consultants and developers, City boards and departments, and City Council regarding specific projects or general engineering questions; may prepare presentations and written materials.
  • Participates in staff, project review, and policy meetings.
  • May develop and operate complex computer simulation models.
  • May administer or monitor project budget.
