About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Civil Engineer I for employment in our Oakland, California office, with a focus on oil & gas projects. This position is expected to begin ASAP. The successful candidate will have a background in civil engineering and California-specific regulations. Residency in California is required for this role, as this is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Valid Driver's license required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
  • Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant years of civil engineering experience, preferably in the oil & gas industry.
  • Demonstrated experience using Civil3D for civil engineering-related projects, including stormwater, grading, roadway, and pipe networks.
  • Demonstrated experience using HydroCAD for hydrologic modeling.
  • Experience in site development, erosion control, and stormwater design within California.
  • Familiarity with California-specific regulations (e.g., CEQA, CalGEM permitting, CARB compliance, DTSC hazardous materials).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred (not required).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to working efficiently to complete tasks within allotted schedule constraints.
  • Ability to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, including California oil & gas infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel, complete field work, and work extended hours, when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Computer-aided design support for oil & gas projects, including pipelines, site development, and stormwater management.
  • Supports report preparation, site reconnaissance, and communications with multi-disciplinary AECOM project teams and clients.
  • Build analytic and design skills with a focus on California oil & gas industry standards.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design principles, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling concepts.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer, ensuring compliance with California regulations (e.g., CEQA, CalGEM, CARB, DTSC).
  • Conducts engineering design and analysis under the supervision of an experienced engineer, with a focus on pipeline design, erosion control, and stormwater systems.
  • Creates designs, models, calculations, sketches, diagrams, drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Understands and applies California regulations to develop standards and theories necessary to carry out project design and permitting work.
