Civil Engineer (General) - Southeast Region
About The Position
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement's Pipeline Safety Division as a Civil Engineer General (CEG). This role is home headquartered and based in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region, consisting of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, and offers a rewarding career path with opportunities for advancement. Requirements
- Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
- Must live or be willing to move to and must travel within the geographic area of the Southeast Region that includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
- Enrollment and completion of designated Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Training and Qualifications (T&Q) courses in Oklahoma City, OK will be required upon hire.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct basic inspections and investigations to verify compliance with pipeline safety regulations
- Assist with investigations of reportable and non-reportable incidents and coordinate with outside agencies
- Support enforcement of Public Utility Commission laws and federal safety rules for pipeline operators
- Review plans, procedures, and engineering operations to assess compliance with required standards
- Prepare inspection reports, investigative findings, and summaries for legal or administrative use
- Maintain assigned vehicle, safety clothing, and complete required federal training programs
