About The Position

The Upchurch Group is seeking a Civil Engineer (FE/EIT) to join our growing team in Mattoon, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging engineer to work alongside experienced Professional Engineers while gaining hands-on experience in planning, design, permitting, and construction support for public and private infrastructure projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain FE/EIT certification within one year of employment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, HEC-RAS, and TR-20
  • Knowledge of transportation, municipal, utility, or stormwater design
  • Familiarity with engineering calculations, permitting processes, and infrastructure design standards
  • CAD drafting and design experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations for transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects
  • Assist with project planning, design development, and technical analysis
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, permit applications, and technical reports
  • Develop quantity takeoffs and detailed construction cost estimates
  • Create engineering drawings using industry-standard CAD software
  • Prepare stormwater management reports and supporting documentation
  • Review engineering plans for ordinance and regulatory compliance
  • Conduct field visits, site observations, and data collection activities
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, planners, GIS specialists, and other project stakeholders
  • Support projects throughout design, permitting, and construction phases
