About The Position

The Upchurch Group is seeking a Civil Engineer (FE/EIT) to join our growing team in Mattoon, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging engineer to work alongside experienced Professional Engineers while gaining hands-on experience in planning, design, permitting, and construction support for public and private infrastructure projects. At The Upchurch Group, you'll contribute to meaningful projects, receive mentorship toward PE licensure, and become part of a team dedicated to delivering innovative engineering solutions that strengthen communities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain FE/EIT certification within one year of employment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
Nice To Haves
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, HEC-RAS, and TR-20
- Knowledge of transportation, municipal, utility, or stormwater design
- Familiarity with engineering calculations, permitting processes, and infrastructure design standards
- CAD drafting and design experience
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations for transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects
- Assist with project planning, design development, and technical analysis
- Prepare construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, permit applications, and technical reports
- Develop quantity takeoffs and detailed construction cost estimates
- Create engineering drawings using industry-standard CAD software
- Prepare stormwater management reports and supporting documentation
- Review engineering plans for ordinance and regulatory compliance
- Conduct field visits, site observations, and data collection activities
- Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, planners, GIS specialists, and other project stakeholders
- Support projects throughout design, permitting, and construction phases
