About The Position

Ducks Unlimited (DU) Minnesota has an opening for a Full-Time Engineer or Construction Manager in the Garfield, MN office or Remote (preferred in Southwest MN). The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Minnesota. As a remote employee, you may be required to come in at any time, with reasonable notice, into a DU office (or other designated location) for meetings and other business needs. DU Engineers operate similarly to a typical consulting agency. We perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, survey, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management. A close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include occasional travel. Requirements

  • Must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited program.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and good communication skills are essential.
  • Must be self-motivated, passionate about conservation, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • A preferred minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering design and construction.
  • Experience with surveying, Civil3D, HydroCAD, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including structures and pump stations, erosion control, construction inspection and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with biological staff.
  • Attend project meetings and collaborate with partners on site designs and functionality.
  • Perform hydrological, soil, and topographic analysis for each restoration/enhancement site. Work with DU biologist to maximize ecological enhancements.
  • Review engineered plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D and assist in drafting plans as needed.
  • Prepare project reports, bidding documents, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field inspections, topographic surveys, and support construction management as needed.
  • Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and budgets.
  • Occasionally travel to partner/team meetings, construction activities, and site visits. Some overnight travel required.
  • Perform field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to trailer and operate an ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
