About The Position

PND Engineers is seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer – Coastal & Water Resources with EIT certification and 0–3 years of experience to join our dynamic, multidiscipline Anchorage office. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer interested in coastal engineering, water resources, and related civil design to develop strong technical modeling, design and field skills while working alongside experienced engineers on challenging projects throughout Alaska.
PND’s Anchorage team works on a diverse range of coastal, waterfront, water resources, and civil projects. In this position, you will gain hands-on experience with coastal processes, waves and currents, shoreline erosion and protection measures, coastal and riverine flooding, hydrologic and hydraulic design, and waterfront and coastal infrastructure. You may also assist with numerical modeling, GIS and engineering data analysis. You will have opportunities to contribute throughout a project’s lifecycle—from initial investigations and engineering analysis through design, preparation of construction documents, field inspection, and construction administration.
Working at PND also means opportunities to get out of the office. Many of our projects are located throughout Alaska, including remote communities and challenging coastal and arctic environments. You may travel by commercial or small aircraft, helicopter, or boat to conduct field investigations and construction inspections. It’s an opportunity to build practical engineering experience early in your career while working on projects, and in places, that few engineers get to experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• EIT certification in the United States, with the goal of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer in Alaska.
• 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Coursework, internships, research, or project experience in coastal engineering, coastal processes, water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, or a related area.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork in a variety of outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Ability to occasionally travel away from home for periods ranging from several days to several weeks, including travel by passenger vehicle, commercial aircraft, small aircraft, helicopter, or boat.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must have ongoing U.S. work authorization without need for employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree with a coastal, water resources, or related engineering focus is preferred.
• Familiarity with coastal and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs such as MIKE 21, Delft3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or HY-8 is a plus.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is preferred; experience with other engineering design and analysis software is a plus.
• Previous construction or field experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform and support coastal engineering analyses involving waves, water levels, currents, shoreline erosion, sediment transport, coastal flooding, and shoreline protection.
• Perform and support hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for drainage systems, culverts, stormwater facilities, stream crossings, and other water resources projects.
• Develop and apply numerical models for coastal, hydraulic, and hydrologic analyses using software such as MIKE 21, Delft3D, HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, and HY-8.
• Assist with civil design for coastal and waterfront infrastructure, site development, utilities, grading, and drainage.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Participate in field investigations and data collection, including coastal and riverine surveys and measurements, site assessments, and construction inspections.
• Work collaboratively with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and other technical professionals on multidisciplinary projects.
• Participate in projects throughout Alaska, including occasional work in remote locations and challenging field conditions.
• Develop your technical and professional skills through mentorship and progressively increasing responsibility as your experience grows.
