About The Position

Sedgman is looking for an intermediate Civil Designer to join their team in the Montreal, QC office. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating 2D and 3D technical drawings and models for infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and utilities for the mining industry, using software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D. They will collaborate with engineers to develop site layouts, grading plans, and stormwater management systems while ensuring compliance with regulations. The role involves working closely with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, structural and electrical) on EPCM projects and participating in the entire design process. Requirements

  • Associate Diploma in CAD / or any other formal training certificates
  • Must have 5 – 7 years’ experience in using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and 12D.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Able to take an engineering concept and convert it into a 3D design
  • Strong attention to detail; exceptional precision in checking drawings for errors before validation
  • Skills in MS Office Suite
  • Eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship
  • Excellent spoken and written French.
  • Strong spoken English skills are required due to daily contact with clients, suppliers, partners, and colleagues based outside Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and profiles for land development and mining infrastructure projects using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and profiles for different types of roads, underground services (like fire protection systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewer systems, etc.), ponds and basins, and water conduits (like open channels and pipe conduits).
  • Possess some knowledge of soil mechanics and hydraulics.
  • Perform calculations for grading, earthwork volumes, and stormwater management systems.
  • Work with Project Managers, engineers, and surveyors to ensure design accuracy.
  • Ensure designs comply with local codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Interpret survey data, geotechnical soil reports, and field information to inform design.
  • Prepare technical reports, construction plans, and site specifications.
  • Understand Sedgman standard specifications and typical/standard drawings to reflect current industry standards.
