About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking an experienced CAD Operator to join its Roadway team in Irving/Las Colinas, Texas. The Civil Design Technician develops concepts and supports preliminary engineering and final design for roadway projects. The role produces and quality-checks technical drawings and plans, performs some multifaceted calculations, maintains drawing databases, coordinates work to meet schedules and quality standards, and may supervise and train CAD staff. The position requires minimal supervision for day-to-day tasks and includes applying engineering principles, suggesting design changes, and becoming familiar with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products.
• Detail-oriented, professional attitude, good communication skills, and a team-player and self-starter approach.
• Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication and writing skills, and desire to learn.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop concepts and support preliminary engineering and final design for roadway projects.
• Develop geometric alignments, profiles, surface models, cross sections, grading designs, drainage, superelevation, construction details, work zone traffic control, erosion control, and signing and striping plans.
• Develop technical drawings and plans using CAD software.
• Create and quality-check drawings and plans of substantial complexity.
• Perform some multifaceted calculations.
• Maintain the drawing database.
• Coordinate work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control.
• Suggest design changes based on knowledge of engineering principles.
• Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.
• May supervise and train CAD staff.
