About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking an experienced Civil Design Technician to join their Roadway team in Sacramento, CA. This role involves developing concepts, preliminary engineering, and final design for projects, including geometric alignments, profiles, surface modeling, cross sections, grading, drainage, superelevation, construction details, work zone traffic control, erosion control, and signing and striping plans. The technician will utilize Civil3D to create technical drawings and plans, perform quality checks, and may conduct multifaceted calculations. The position requires minimal supervision, a strong understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to suggest design changes. Responsibilities also include maintaining the drawing database, potentially supervising and training CAD staff, coordinating work activities to meet schedules and ensure quality control, and developing familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products; particularly Civil3D.
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter.
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.

  • Associates degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts, preliminary engineering, and final design for projects.

  • Develop technical drawings and plans using Civil3D.
  • Make and quality check drawings and plans of substantial complexity.
  • Perform some multifaceted calculations.
  • Requires minimal supervision to perform day to day tasks.
  • Has knowledge of engineering principles and suggests design changes.
  • Maintains drawing database.
  • May supervise and train CAD staff.
  • Coordinates work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control.
  • Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards.
