About The Position

The Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including clearing, grubbing, and construction of roads, pads, and temporary matting for utility infrastructure. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and collaboration with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure projects are cost-effective, safe, and meet quality standards. You will be analyzing project plans, performing quantity takeoffs, soliciting vendor and subcontractor pricing, and helping build complete project estimates across a range of services including earthwork, site development, utilities, and environmental restoration.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in construction estimating, project coordination, or related field
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow in the estimating field
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer / pre-placement drug screen.
  • Must also submit to a post-offer / pre-employment background report & motor vehicle check.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to civil construction, site development, utilities, or environmental services preferred
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with earthwork, grading, underground utilities, erosion control, or restoration scopes
  • Experience supporting bids for sitework, ROW, or infrastructure projects

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates for civil construction and environmental services projects
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications
  • Review project plans, scopes, and bid documents to identify requirements
  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Prepare bid proposals, including schedules, work plans and various other documents that are submitted to clients or project stakeholders
  • Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing, and bid logs
  • Coordinate with project managers, operations, and field teams to validate assumptions
  • Evaluate project risks, timelines, and logistics
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews
  • Ensure estimates align with company standards for safety, quality, and profitability
  • Gathering data and assessing project feasibility by evaluating site conditions, access, and potential challenges.
  • Working closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and clients to gather essential information and insights for precise estimations.
  • Accommodate occasional travel schedule as required for pre-bid or project progress reviews.
