About The Position

Michael Baker International, a Top 20 transportation firm, seeks a Civil Associate for its New Jersey Highway/Roadway Department. This role involves assisting and leading the design and development of roadway design tasks and plans preparation. The ideal candidate will specialize in roadway geometry, roadside protection, ADA compliance, site work, utilities, contract document development (specifications, plans, cost estimates), Maintenance and Protection of Traffic, cost/benefit alternative analyses, stakeholder coordination, and technical proposal contributions. Experience with agencies like NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, and PANYNJ is preferred, with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and NYCDDC being desirable. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 2+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience.
  • Experience in preparing Preliminary Engineering to Final Design Plans is required.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Transportation Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate preferred or on-track to obtain within one year.
  • Passed PE Exam preferred or on track to take exam within one year.
  • Post Design experience is desirable.
  • Experience with agencies, such as NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, and PANYNJ is preferred.
  • NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and NYCDDC experience is desirable.
  • Experience in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as Excel, AUTOCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Scheduling, and ArcGIS is highly desirable.
  • ORD desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construction documents, plan production, maps, basic reports, and other supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of drawings for highways, structures, and traffic projects.
  • Gather background information for project sites, including reviewing as-built plans and mapping existing utility services.
  • Assist with quantity take-offs and project cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with design technicians to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Help with document preparation for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
  • Prepare for client and project meetings.
  • Attend internal project meetings and participate as necessary.
  • Occasionally visit project sites and report findings to Project Managers.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other disciplines.
  • Attend training sessions for various design software and design elements.

Benefits

  • The approximate compensation range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000.
