About The Position

Ramboll is seeking a Civil 3D Designer / CAD Technician for a hybrid-based position in their Syracuse, NY office. This role involves providing drafting and design support for data center, industrial, and other large-scale site development projects. The focus will be on the efficient production of conceptual layouts and civil plan sets, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, and erosion and sediment control. The position is within the Civil Engineering and Design team, which supports various development programs from site due diligence through construction support. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, specialists, and other technical professionals.

Requirements

• Technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent experience in civil engineering technology, CAD drafting/design, surveying, or a related field.
• Approximately 3+ years of civil/site CAD drafting and design experience with strong proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience developing land development plans and Civil 3D models, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, pipe networks, surfaces, alignments, and profiles.
• Ability to interpret surveys, engineering markups, design calculations, and construction documents while producing accurate, high-quality deliverables under project deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Forma, GIS, or data center/industrial projects is a plus.
• Strong production focus with consistent attention to drawing quality and file organization.
• Ability to work independently from clear direction and to ask timely questions when design intent is uncertain.
• Responsiveness to changing project priorities and iterative design development.
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach and willingness to share knowledge and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide Civil 3D drafting and design support for land development projects throughout due diligence, planning, design, permitting, and construction.
• Prepare and maintain site development plans, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, erosion control, and construction details using Civil 3D.
• Develop and manage Civil 3D models, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, and earthwork quantity calculations.
• Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, environmental specialists, and other project teams to produce accurate, coordinated drawings and technical deliverables.
• Ensure quality and compliance by maintaining organized project files, adhering to CAD standards, performing quality checks, and supporting field data collection and construction-phase revisions.
