Summer 2027 DNC Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Legal Internship
About The Position
The DNC is accepting applications for our Summer 2027 Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Legal Internship Program. Interning at the DNC is a unique opportunity for hardworking, passionate future leaders to gain real-world, hands-on experience in Democratic politics, deepen their understanding of the political process, and prepare for future political opportunities. The internship, specifically in the Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Department, offers law students unparalleled access to in-depth knowledge of our election laws and the chance to contribute to the critical work of ensuring every voter can cast their vote, have it count, and have fair elections. The Spring Internship will provide law students with the unique opportunity to work during the important months of state legislative sessions and the build up to an open Democratic Primary for President of the United States. The program will run from May 31, 2027, to August 6, 2027, and will be conducted in an in-person, hybrid, or remote format. Interns based in the Washington, D.C. area will have the opportunity to perform in-person work for the DNC at the Democratic National Headquarters and DNC events. You must be located in the United States to apply for this internship. The DNC Internship Program provides a $3,700 stipend. Housing is not provided. During the upcoming term, interns are expected to work 20 hours per week or up to the required number of hours for a documented and approved institutional program. The application deadline is January 8, 2027. This internship is limited to current law school students and recent graduates. Do not apply if you are an undergraduate.
Requirements
- Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship and currently enrolled in an accredited law school in the United States.
- Applicants must complete at least one year of law school before applying.
- Commitment of at least 20 hours per week during the program or up to the required number of hours for an institutional program
- Physically present in the United States to participate in this internship program
- Legal memorandum for a writing sample
- Cover letter
- Commitment of 20 hours per week during the program
- Three professional references, including one for a law school professor
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Manager of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection
- Attend mandatory onboarding/offboarding sessions
- Conduct legal research
- Draft legal memoranda
- Organize events
- Assist the Civic Engagement and Voter Protection team with managing our year-round Voter Assistance Hotline
- Develop Civic Engagement and Voter Protection explanatory resources, voting rights advocacy materials, and voter education trainings
- Support our volunteer efforts
