City Launcher (Kansas City)

Brodie Rec League•Kansas City, KS
•$70,000 - $80,000•Onsite

About The Position

As a City Launcher, you will open a Brodie market in a neighborhood you already come from. Your responsibilities include recruiting a minimum of 24 founding captains in your first season, sourcing and validating the venue, filling the gym, and running the launch season. You will be the face of Brodie in your city, present at every game night, open runs, and active in group chats, knowing players on a first-name basis. This role prioritizes community building, followed by sales and growth marketing. The ideal candidate is already integrated into the local basketball community, familiar with local gyms and possessing existing group chat connections. This is not a role where you hand off responsibilities; you will validate the market, prove the model, grow it season over season, and potentially add cities to your territory. You will collaborate with leadership across operations, growth, brand, and people to build a repeatable launch playbook for future Brodie cities. Applicants will be asked about their neighborhood, preferred gyms and contacts, and initial captains. If these questions feel like a chore, this role is not suitable. If you already know the answers, we encourage you to continue.

Requirements

  • Reside in or directly adjacent to the target launch neighborhood (not just the metro area).
  • Possess an existing network within the local basketball community, including coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, tournament organizers, and group-chat admins.
  • Actively participate in the basketball culture, currently playing in a rec league or having played last season, and frequenting gyms weekly.
  • Have a strong reputation within the local scene, where recommendations lead to action (credibility over follower count).
  • Confidence to name the first ten captains and the credibility to engage them.
  • Ability to build demand from zero through events, social media, partnerships, and word-of-mouth with minimal budget.
  • Proficiency in closing deals, including negotiating with facility owners for space and captains for deposits, managing the process from initial contact to signature.
  • Comfort with owning performance metrics, using a CRM, and quickly adopting new tools; strong tech acumen or curiosity is expected.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as game nights typically run from 7 PM to midnight.
  • Willingness to travel across an expanding territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running a run, league, tournament, training group, or community program.
  • Experience managing social media for a local brand, venue, team, or community.
  • Background in sports, events, hospitality, fitness, lifestyle, or entertainment industries.
  • Experience selling partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, or experiential products and services.
  • 3+ years in sales, partnerships, community management, or growth roles (prioritized based on network and influence rather than title history).

Responsibilities

  • Recruit a minimum of 24 founding captains per league, starting with existing network contacts.
  • Enter known gyms/courts (open runs, rec leagues, training sessions, tournaments) and introduce Brodie to familiar rooms.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key community influencers: coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, barbers, group-chat admins, and local business owners.
  • Drive the referral program to make captains and players the primary recruiting channel, and maintain a visible, normal presence in the neighborhood weekly.
  • Identify and evaluate gyms in the neighborhood, then negotiate and secure the appropriate venue.
  • Follow the sales sequence: soft close the venue, prove demand, then sign. Leases are not held on unproven markets.
  • Own and track performance metrics in CRM (teams signed, fill rate, revenue) to ensure market predictability.
  • Monitor weekly progress and escalate issues early if behind targets.
  • Build local demand from scratch, ensuring the neighborhood becomes aware of Brodie and the gym is full within eight weeks.
  • Manage the location's social media page leading up to launch, growing the following, building anticipation, and creating a local waitlist before the first night.
  • Host open runs and live events to convert interest into signed, paid teams on the same night.
  • Leverage local distribution channels such as trainers with client lists, shops, barbershops, run pages, and popular photographers, building mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Attend game nights to foster genuine relationships with captains, players, families, and spectators, transforming game nights into community events.
  • Monitor league health during the season (retention, team count, waitlist, feedback) and collaborate with Operations on game-night execution while retaining ownership of growth, revenue, and community.
  • Contribute to building the repeatable launch playbook for all future Brodie cities, and earn the right to expand territory as your track record grows.
