The City Laborer is a stand-alone classification in the Department of Public Works. This position performs assorted public works duties such as sweeping sidewalks and streets, blowing and raking leaves, and collecting/picking up brush, garbage, and recycling materials. The role may also participate in seasonal work like ice and snow removal, and perform various duties in stowing scrap metal, delivering and retrieving vehicles, picking up parts and supplies, and performing cleaning and maintenance of City facilities, buildings, and landscapes. This includes tasks like cleaning restrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, operating specialized cleaning equipment, washing windows, removing trash and litter, and collecting recyclables. The position may operate various hand and power tools, perform minor equipment maintenance, and use a cell phone as determined by job duties. The role requires meeting attendance requirements, maintaining good interpersonal relationships, and performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations. This position is deemed essential during inclement weather situations.
