About The Position

Under the direction of the City Manager’s Office of Violence Intervention and Prevention, this limited-term position (ending March 31, 2029, contingent upon continued funding) is responsible for incident response to engage very high-risk individuals subject to violence. The role involves offering support and services, discouraging retaliation, building relationships with victims, their families, and networks. Responsibilities include responding to various locations to contact high-risk clients, coordinating and facilitating community events in high-violence areas, establishing a positive presence, and engaging high-risk individuals and groups to offer support.

Requirements

Possession of a High School Diploma or GED
One (1) year of experience working with high-risk populations providing intervention and diversion services
OR Possession of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in counseling, social services, or a related field preferred
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license
Provide reliable self-transportation and current proof of vehicle insurance
Must successfully complete required pre-employment background
Pass a tuberculosis screening test
Employees must complete "Mandated Reporter" training within two weeks of appointment and as assigned

Responsibilities

Responds to call outs for incidents of violence at any time of day, including immediate emergency responses as directed, to provide community resources, advocate for program enrollment, and build relationships
Makes initial contact with very high-risk individuals and assess and coordinate resources/services
Conducts proactive outreach in identified high-risk areas to identify individuals involved in violence and to build strong relationships with those individuals, residents, businesses, and community groups
Intervenes in potential conflicts by facilitating communication and advocacy for programs that diffuse violence
Offers support and services to very high-risk individuals subject to violence
Discourages retaliation
Builds relationships with victim, family, and victim’s network
Responds to various locations to contact individuals referred as high risk clients
Coordinates, attends, and/or facilitates community events in neighborhoods with high rates of violence
Establishes a positive presence in high risk areas
Engages high-risk individuals and groups to offer support
Performs related work as required
