About The Position

Responsible professional, technical, planning, and administrative position responsible for directing and coordinating Engineering functions, including capital improvement planning, design, survey, development review, and construction inspection. The position bridges Development and the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) by evaluating growth, infrastructure capacity, and future needs to ensure capital investments support responsible development, long-term growth, and community resilience. Work is performed with considerable independence within established City policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and ten (10) years of civil engineering experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work with other subordinates to accomplish the project management goal of surveying, designing, planning and specification preparation.
  • Ability to participate, foster and encourage all members of the division to work as members of a team.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment.
  • A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification as a Professional Land Surveyor preferred.
  • Familiarity with various types of engineering software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directing and coordinating Engineering functions, including capital improvement planning, design, survey, development review, and construction inspection.
  • Evaluating growth, infrastructure capacity, and future needs to ensure capital investments support responsible development, long-term growth, and community resilience.
  • Performing all calculations for design, computer programs, utilizing specifications and setting standards.
  • Preparing plans and reviewing engineering plans submitted by others for public infrastructure improvements.
  • Going to the job site to participate in surveys, field observations, and walk over construction sites for observation and collection of data.
  • Working with other subordinates to accomplish the project management goal of surveying, designing, planning and specification preparation.
  • Participating, fostering and encouraging all members of the division to work as members of a team.
  • Preparing highly complex and technical reports; documenting policies and procedures; performing research.
  • Making presentations before various groups, including City Council, Commissions, and professional and public meetings, as needed.
