City Attorney
About The Position
The City Attorney is the chief legal advisor to the City Council, City Administrator and City department heads. The City Attorney, directly or through subordinates, provides legal advice and support services in a variety of areas including contracts, civil service and employment matters, real estate, economic development and the regulation of land uses and other activities. Oversees and coordinates the activities of the outside counsel when employed for litigation or specialized legal services for the City. The City Attorney is also responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor offences in the City's Municipal Court.
Requirements
- Doctorate of Jurisprudence.
- Seven (7) years of experience in the practice of municipal or other governmental law.
- Possession of a license to practice law in the State of Texas.
- Knowledge of recent developments in municipal and criminal law as they relate to the duties of the position.
- Ability to conduct prosecutions effectively and in conformity with applicable law and prosecutorial ethics.
- Ability to carefully research all legal issues as necessary.
- Ability to gather facts and consult with others as necessary to resolve legal issues.
- Prepares documents in an organized concise manner.
- Ability to advocate positions in a responsible and effective manner.
- Ability to carefully reviews all documents and pleadings for accuracy and legality.
- Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening.
- A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.
- Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
