Process Technician

V R Della Infotech•Granville, OH

About The Position

Owens Corning is hiring a Circular Economy Technician to support development of fiberglass recycling technologies and systems. The role focuses on glass milling, heat cleaning, contaminant removal, and bulk material handling to reduce reliance on virgin materials and advance operations toward carbon neutrality and zero waste-to-landfill goals. The technician prepares, catalogs, tracks, and ships raw material samples; operates equipment to process samples and measure material properties; and records testing data. The role also works with circular economy engineers and site partners to configure, assemble, and build pilot and prototype test equipment, conduct experiments, and gather data. Safety, sample traceability, accurate documentation, and collaboration with internal teams and external vendors are central to the position. The role reports to the Senior Sustainability Engineer and may require domestic travel up to 25% of the time.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering.
  • Comfort working with laboratory equipment and ability to organize data diligently.
  • Technical proficiency in electro-mechanical applications.
  • Hands-on mechanical prototype construction experience, including piping and measurement instrumentation for fluids or hot gases.
  • Ability to safely assist the circular economy team during manufacturing plant trials.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of the time.
  • Safety-conscious behavior in processes and procedures.
  • Self-motivation and ability and desire to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prepare data.
  • Ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and execute in R&D and Operations environments.
  • Attention to detail and dedication to documenting and embedding knowledge within the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in minerals or glass processing.
  • Experience with recycling processes and equipment, such as grinding, sorting, separation, and bulk material handling.
  • Team orientation, high energy, and desire to build relationships, collaborate, and drive results across functions and disciplines in a dynamic, multi-project environment.
  • Resilience and agility to adapt to a changing environment and business.
  • Out-of-the-box thinking to identify new approaches to overcome obstacles.

Responsibilities

  • Organize preparation, cataloging, delivery, and shipment of raw material samples to internal and external partners.
  • Follow safety procedures and protocols.
  • Gather samples from manufacturing plant contacts, divide them into quantities for analysis, prepare them—including particle sizing—and organize shipments to vendors.
  • Prevent sample contamination and maintain sample traceability.
  • Catalog raw material retention samples for future reference.
  • Operate particle-sizing equipment, including jar mills, ball mills, and shredding equipment.
  • Safely operate testing equipment and record raw material data accurately.
  • Perform bulk particle-sizing analysis, including measurements of particle density, particle-size distribution, and other raw material properties.
  • Collaborate with glass and batch labs to expedite sample testing.
  • Work with circular economy engineers to determine appropriate testing procedures and lab locations.
  • Perform routine maintenance of instruments and machinery and maintain laboratory consumable inventory.
  • Work with circular economy engineers to create pilot and prototype test equipment.
  • Safely use hand and small power tools to build and assemble testing fixtures.
  • Gather and purchase materials needed to build prototype equipment.
  • Collaborate with the site safety team to ensure prototypes meet required safety standards.
  • Coordinate required prototype utilities with site facilities and maintenance teams.
  • Conduct experiments and gather data using prototype equipment.
  • Assist the circular economy team during manufacturing plant trials.
