About The Position

As a key member of the Humber River Family Health Team (HRFHT) and an integral part of an Interprofessional health care team, the chiropodist will provide a full range of quality foot care to all HRFHT patients. The range of services includes active treatment of acute pathological foot conditions, surgical procedures, and preventive & palliative foot care.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. and licensing/registration by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Work effectively, both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proven flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
  • Computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training or knowledge in the areas of chronic disease management and geriatrics is considered an asset.
  • Experience with EMR is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment of foot disorders or dysfunctions and their treatment, by therapeutic, orthotic, or palliative means.
  • Differentiating between disorders of the foot arising from systemic or general disease and those arising from local, structural and/or functional disorders.
  • Recognizing patients having conditions beyond their scope of practice and referring to other appropriate health care professionals (e.g. primary care provider).
  • Designing and implementing a management plan based on the presenting conditions and the patient’s individual needs. The Chiropodist will reinforce and encourage patient responsibility and participation in the management plan.
  • Communicating foot health education in a variety of settings to patients, Interprofessional health care professionals (IHPs) or other concerned individuals.
  • Ensuring appropriate antiseptic techniques, safe procedures and isolation practices are maintained in the clinical and/or surgical setting; and providing a safe environment for patients, practitioners and others in the clinic.
  • Plans for future clinics to ensure that HRFHT clinical goals and objectives are met and that HRFHT mission and vision statements are at the core of service delivery.
  • Ensures safe working practices and that all clinical equipment is in satisfactory operating condition.
  • Maintains and upgrades knowledge and skills regarding new procedures, methods and equipment through attendance at relevant seminars and educational programs, prepares quarterly reports, and monitors daily statistical data.
  • Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of chronic disease and health promotion and illness prevention programs and services.
