About The Position
The Chiller Technician is our highest level of Service Technician, capable of diagnosing and repairing all levels of HVAC equipment, including very large and sophisticated chiller plants. This role requires at least two certifications in the repair of chiller plants (e.g., McQuay or Daiken) and the ability to perform complete teardowns and rebuilds of these plants.
Requirements
- Over 5 years of field experience plus specialized training.
- At least two certifications in the repair of chiller plants (e.g., McQuay or Daiken).
- Capability for complete teardowns and rebuilds of chiller plants.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing unitary products (1-ton mini splits to 50-ton package units).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting VFDs and control issues.
- Ability to change compressors and perform maintenance.
- Proficiency in performing combustion analysis, troubleshooting water and air flow issues, and repairing boilers.
- Ability to diagnose compressor, motor, and starter issues with Wye Delta, AFD, and solid-state starters.
- Ability to perform leak searches on low-pressure chillers.
- Ability to Megha-Ohm compressor motors.
- Ability to troubleshoot water flow issues and control issues related to chiller operation.
- Ability to troubleshoot signal and control issues related to control valves.
- Ability to troubleshoot heat exchanger water flow issues and performance deficiencies.
- Ability to tear down, clean, and reassemble heat exchangers with new gaskets.
- Must be able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Computer skills are a must; working knowledge of Microsoft / Word / Excel / Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a pre-hire drug screen.
- Ability to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in Turbor Core and Centrifugal compressors.
Responsibilities
- Identify, diagnose, and repair systems and products at customer locations via dispatcher.
- Troubleshoot VFDs, control issues, change compressors, and perform maintenance on unitary products (from 1-ton mini splits to 50-ton package units).
- Perform combustion analysis, troubleshoot water and air flow issues, and repair/verify correct operation of boilers.
- Diagnose compressor, motor, and starter issues with Wye Delta, AFD, and solid-state starters on chillers.
- Tear down and rebuild compressors, oil pumps, and starters as necessary.
- Perform leak searches on low-pressure chillers and Megha-Ohm compressor motors.
- Troubleshoot water flow issues and control issues related to chiller operation.
- Troubleshoot signal and control issues related to control valves.
- Troubleshoot water flow issues and determine deficiencies in heat exchanger performance.
- Tear down, clean, and reassemble heat exchangers with new gaskets.
- Provide all information from each service call to the dispatcher before leaving the job site.
- Document work by accurately completing paperwork and maintaining files.
- Provide initial and follow-up training at customer sites.
- Expand business by discussing other services available.
- Read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Utilize computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
