About The Position

JLL is seeking a Utilities Mechanic/Relief Stationary Operating Engineer for their Utilities department. This hybrid position involves operating, maintaining, and repairing critical facility support equipment such as boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment systems, and pumping infrastructure. The role also includes providing relief coverage for control room operations to ensure 24/7 facility reliability, which is vital for maintaining facility research capabilities through reliable utility operations. JLL emphasizes safety excellence and operational continuity.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of trades schooling in high pressure boiler and industrial refrigeration/HVAC operation theory
  • 2+ years of experience in facility/plant engineering maintenance or equivalent education
  • Class 1 Stationary Engineers License
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift 50-pound objects regularly and work in varying temperature conditions
  • Capability to work 24/7 shift coverage as needed

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Forklift, scissor lift, and aerial lift certifications
  • Experience with high pressure boiler theory, chillers over 500 tons, and building automation systems
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation drawings and troubleshoot complex systems
  • Experience with water chemical treatment testing and documentation
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and team collaboration abilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on utilities equipment including boilers, chillers, pumps, and cooling tower components.
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure steam and hot water boilers in compliance with manufacturer recommendations and applicable regulations.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and determine whether repairs require internal resources or outside services.
  • Monitor and operate control room systems for immediate alarm response and corrective action on a 24/7 basis.
  • Apply lock out/tag out processes consistently before any maintenance work to ensure safety compliance.
  • Start and stop equipment following site heating and cooling load demands using building automation systems.
  • Document all maintenance activities and operations in writing and work order software to maintain continuous equipment records.
  • Monitor water testing, treatment, and chemical usage for boilers and chilled water systems per water safety management plans.
  • Execute proper equipment start-up and shut-down procedures while making safe operational adjustments.
  • Complete required safety training platforms and computer-based training before assigned due dates.
  • Monitor fuel storage systems and maintain usage logs in compliance with permits and regulations.
