About The Position

Under general direction, the Children Services Associate provides information to patrons while staffing the children’s desk. The role may provide or assist with programs and with the development and maintenance of the Children’s Collection. This is a part-time, 20-hour-a-week, on-site position that includes days, evenings, and weekends. The starting pay rate is $17.76 per hour. The position remains open until filled.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in any field.
Ability to work with children, both individually and in groups.
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
General knowledge of children’s books and authors.
Ability to interact and communicate appropriately with all patrons and staff.
Ability to present a positive, professional image to the public.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and related library software.

Responsibilities

Provide reader’s advisory services and recommend age-appropriate materials to patrons.
Provide general information services to patrons in a variety of formats.
Gather requested library materials for patrons and/or assist patrons in reserving library materials.
Pursue continuous professional development through attendance at meetings, conferences, in-service training sessions, and committee assignments.
Fill book displays.
May recommend the purchase of new or replacement materials for the Children Services department.
Maintain department files, statistics, and records as assigned.
Assist with and provide programs for children.
Assist in maintaining the children’s collection.
May check out materials to patrons.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
