About The Position

This position assists in implementing an enriched childcare program located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside that meets the needs of children three to five years of age in the daycare program, and children five to twelve years of age in the out of school care program. This position also provides opportunities for children who have extra support needs to be integrated in an inclusive setting.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate.
  • A current and valid First Aid certificate is required.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamentals of community childcare programs.
  • Knowledge and experience of community resources.
  • Previous experience writing precise individual care planning and reports.
  • Ability to plan and lead daycare curriculum/activities for differently abled children.
  • Experience with group dynamics and behavior management.
  • Sound knowledge of community care licensing requirements.
  • Previous experience and documentation around child protection issues.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, policies and regulations applicable to the work performed.
  • Ability to liaise with relevant professionals and other groups.
  • A Police Records Check is a requirement of this position.

Nice To Haves

  • A Special Needs Certificate is preferred.
  • Experience working with special needs children in childcare settings is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting families living in the DTES of Vancouver is preferred.
  • A class 4 driver’s license would be an asset.
  • A second language would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in planning and leading age-appropriate programs for children in childcare.
  • Ensuring opportunities for children requiring extra support are part of the daily curriculum.
  • Assisting in modifying activities that help with child development and social learning.
  • Working with outside professionals.
  • Assisting in writing individual care plans and reports.
  • Building and fostering positive and healthy relationships with children, families, and staff.
