About The Position

The Childcare Specialist will assist with a grant-funded project to connect families in Brooklyn to childcare assistance. The role involves collaborating with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need, screening them for eligibility, and assisting with applications. The specialist will also enroll childcare providers and children in the program, build expertise in the NYC childcare landscape, determine appropriate childcare settings, and conduct yearly recertifications. Strong communication skills are essential for engaging families and providers, troubleshooting issues, and providing information or referrals. The position also includes conducting visits to childcare providers, collaborating with the fiscal department to track and distribute funds, maintaining project data, creating and maintaining case records, attending meetings, and participating in advocacy efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish, or Mandarin, preferred
  • Experience in community engagement or other forms of direct service
  • Knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape or willingness to learn
  • Excellent telephone and email etiquette
  • Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated cultural competence with immigrant communities
  • Friendly, highly dependable, and flexible

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need of childcare assistance
  • Screen families for eligibility utilizing a standardized tool and complete applications
  • Enroll childcare providers in the program and assist them in enrolling children
  • Build knowledge/expertise of the NYC childcare landscape in Brooklyn to assist families to connect with childcare as needed
  • Determine the appropriate childcare type and setting to meet the family’s eligibility and needs
  • Conduct yearly recertifications for continuing eligibility and enrollment
  • Utilize excellent communication skills to engage families and childcare providers, troubleshoot, and assist them with successfully using assistance
  • Conduct visits to childcare providers
  • Provide information or referrals for childcare for families who are not deemed eligible for assistance through the project
  • Refer all families to CFLSP Benefits Access & Enrollment team, and to other CFLSP programs and resources as needed
  • Collaborate with the fiscal department to track and distribute funds
