About The Position

We're looking for a warm, enthusiastic, and dependable leader with a genuine love for children to join our childcare team at Mountainside Fitness—an upscale health club where families feel at home. As a Childcare Manager, you'll lead the childcare team, create a safe and welcoming environment for kids, and build trust with parents. You'll be responsible for ensuring an exceptional experience for every family while supporting and developing your team.

Requirements

  • Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly and efficiently in both the club's and the member's best interest.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills — positive and effective — with co-workers, members, and children.
  • Knowledge of safety issues involving children and the care of children.
  • Consistently and accurately count and log daily money.
  • Record daily tally sheets and weekly usage accurately.
  • Record-keeping skills for staff, members, and children.
  • Knowledge of child developmental abilities for appropriate activities, redirection, and requests.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Mountainside Fitness organizational history and the childcare department's function and duties.
  • Desire to promote Mountainside Fitness and its policies 100%.
  • Ability to guide, instruct, and motivate new and existing department team members.
  • Demonstrate willingness to seek additional assignments when time permits.
  • Demonstrate competence in the operation of basic office equipment: phone, fax machine, computer, copy machine, etc.
  • Must be able to exemplify all duties and responsibilities required of the front desk staff and Supervisor.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and duties.
  • Demonstrate the ability to tactfully delegate tasks to co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain efficiency and productivity of the department.
  • Minimum of 5 years of childcare experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Successfully complete the Mountainside Initial Training program within 30 days of starting in the position.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to move throughout the childcare facility freely and quickly for the safety of the children.
  • Physical exertion requirements include bending, stretching, reaching, possibly lifting heavy children, and cleaning duties.
  • Must be comfortable sitting on the floor and playing with children.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Manager over all childcare staff.
  • Handle all member and staff concerns in a polite, calm, consistent, and firm manner; relay to the Club Manager as soon as possible.
  • Conduct and schedule new employee training; follow up with new employees during the introductory period for completion of the Initial Training Program.
  • Provide continual feedback, encouragement, explanation, and instruction to current staff to help minimize errors.
  • Review applications, conduct initial interviews of potential new staff, check references, and consult with the Club Manager upon completion of the second interview.
  • Conduct employee terminations after consulting with the Club Manager.
  • Recognize outstanding accomplishments and deficiencies with department staff through review and feedback sessions a minimum of twice per year, and progressive discipline procedures as needed.
  • Monitor employee timecards and record vacation, sick, and personal leave time benefits.
  • Track employee incentive points and notify them of point amounts quarterly.
  • Monitor staff duty sheets for completion and fair staff participation.
  • Work closely with other Childcare Managers — meeting with them and visiting their sites on a frequent basis.
  • Maintain adequate coverage at all times to meet budget and ratio demands — including scheduling shifts, finding substitutes, and covering shifts if necessary.
  • Consistently and accurately execute all job-related responsibilities and duties of the childcare staff and Supervisor.
  • Monitor all activities of department staff while on duty and redirect inappropriate behavior.
  • Maintain childcare efficiency by delegating tasks, organizing supplies and equipment, and addressing staff and member-related issues immediately.
  • Initiate the implementation of new ideas, projects, and programs; inform members of additional programs such as summer basketball court program, craft day, fit kids, Parent's Night Out, etc.
  • Initiate and maintain communication with the department by using the Read-Me Book and conducting regular meetings.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Monitor cash and payment intake throughout each shift and maintain an adequate amount of change.
  • Keep a daily record of the number of children in care and hours each child is present; log a total number of hours for the day and add to a weekly total sheet.
  • Maintain stock of forms: waivers, emergency info, temporary guardianship, childcare EFT, etc.
  • Keep members' information updated (method of payment and child's information).
  • Inspect toys and play equipment regularly for broken parts or safety concerns.
  • Ensure the childcare room and all toys are clean, disinfected, and sanitized.
  • Address any building or structural problems — leaks, air conditioning, TV/DVD issues, etc. — pertaining to the childcare area.
  • Enforce all policies and responsibilities of department staff and members.
