Responsible for assisting court care site supervisor in the care and development of children dropped in a Court Care as well as maintenance of the classroom. Assists in planning and teaching activities within the YWCA’s developmentally appropriate framework to encourage the advancement of children’s cognitive, social/emotional, physical and creative skills. Recognizes health and safety hazards and protects children from harm. Protects the physical care and nurtures children in a clean, safe teaching environment that supports their needs for physical movement, sensory stimulation, mental health support and nourishment. Encourages the positive self-image of children through active listening, responding and encouraging independence while giving verbal and non-verbal reinforcement. Uses positive, non-punitive discipline techniques. Guides children in controlling their behavior by using positive, appropriate approaches. Cleans and maintains the classroom and equipment on a regular basis. Supports budget expenditures controls through the proper care and use of materials and equipment. Helps complete timely, accurate reporting that can include but is not limited to attendance and program reports, timesheets, leave requests, in-take forms and surveys, reporting incidents, and all related paper work. Adapts and responds to changing and challenging conditions in ways that enhances program quality. Helps to develop and maintain cooperative, supportive relationships with court care staff, children and their families.
