About The Position

The Assistant Teacher supports the YMCA, a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The role helps create a safe, positive atmosphere that welcomes children and families while promoting and maintaining a strong educational program in accordance with YMCA policies and applicable licensing and quality requirements. Available shifts are 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM or 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The position is part-time and located at the Oscar Lasko YMCA in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
30 credit hours of education in early childhood, elementary education, or a related human services field; alternatively, 15 college credit hours and one year of experience related to care, 2,500 hours of service, or a current CDA certificate are listed as qualifications.
Keep an up-to-date DHS file.
Obtain and maintain all new-hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

2,500 hours of childcare service (two years) of experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain supervision of all students.
Provide a safe, clean, and risk-free environment.
Engage with children to encourage their development and involvement in activities.
Maintain records, including accident and incident reports, sign-in and sign-out sheets, and attendance records.
Greet parents and children daily and report or direct parental concerns to the lead teacher or director.
Use positive guidance to support children.
Follow Department of Human Services (DHS) procedures and help others do so.
Provide care for children's needs.
Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
