About The Position

Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child and Youth Resiliency Worker (Child in Care Worker) to support children and youth in temporary or long-term care. The Child and Youth Resiliency Worker provides direct care, emotional support, and case management services focused on the safety, well-being, development, and resilience of children and youth. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with families, caregivers, social workers, and community supports to ensure children remain connected to family, culture, and community while receiving high-quality, culturally grounded care. This role is guided by the philosophy and standards of Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), First Nation values, and applicable provincial child welfare legislation and standards.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
Ability to travel and provide a Driver’s Abstract
Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) prior to employment
Must be able to work flexible hours.
Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation
Sign and maintain an annual oath of confidentiality.
Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
Incumbent is subject to six months’ probation.
Bachelor of Social Work Degree or Community College Diploma in a related human services field preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and skills may be considered.
Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children and families or within a related human services environment.
Experience in child welfare, youth services, or community-based care is considered an asset.
Thorough knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, regulations, and customary care practices.
Understanding of First Nation communities, family structures, customs, and traditions.
Knowledge of provincial childcare regulations, plans of care, case management, and child protection standards.
Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
Ability to build trusting relationships and advocate effectively for children and youth.
Experience working with computerized databases and documentation systems.

Nice To Haves

Ability to speak Ojibway is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and community-based approaches to child and family well-being.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and emotional support to children and youth in care.
Build trusting and positive relationships that promote healthy development and self-esteem.
Support daily routines including: Meals, Hygiene, School preparation, Appointments, Recreation and community activities.
Apply trauma-informed approaches to support children experiencing behavioural or emotional challenges.
Help children develop coping strategies, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
Implement individualized care plans and behavioural support strategies.
Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for children and youth.
Monitor physical, emotional, and mental well-being and report concerns promptly.
Follow all safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection policies and procedures.
Support school attendance, homework, and educational success.
Teach age-appropriate life skills including communication, self-care, and social development.
Encourage participation in recreational, cultural, and community-based activities.
Maintain accurate records, case notes, incident reports, and daily logs.
Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and training sessions.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, caregivers, social workers, and external professionals.
Complete case management requirements within legislated timelines.
Assist in developing and updating comprehensive Plans of Care that support: Family and community connection, Educational development, Social and recreational needs, Cultural and spiritual well-being.
Advocate for the best interests of the child while promoting stability and resilience.
Work collaboratively with the Manager of Child & Youth Resiliency on critical case decisions.
