About The Position

Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities. Reporting to a Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Child/Youth/Family Program Instructor is responsible for leading high-quality programs at specific site locations throughout the City of London. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring recreation programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in a recreation environment, with a minimum of one year experience an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the activity area you are applying to such as art, sports, or dance (instruction or teaching).
  • Standard or Intermediate First Aid (prior to the start of the program)
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program)
  • Minimum age 16 by start of programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).

Responsibilities

  • Lead high quality recreation activities that ensure participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment (Programs include, but are not limited to, arts & crafts, variety of sports, dance, drawing and sketching, etc.).
  • Supervise program participants and encourage fair play and sportsmanship.
  • Create and implement program plans with the support of resources provided by Supervisors.
  • Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, injuries, and safety checks.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers.
  • Maintain an inventory of program supplies and communicate program supply needs to Program Coordinator/Supervisor as required.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to the Program Coordinator/Supervisor.
  • Assist with the distribution of program literature as required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
